When online turns into offline, it's an exciting thing.
Dates can be wonderful, funny, or, well, sometimes boring—and sometimes, unfortunately, they go very differently.
It's important to us that everyone has a pleasant and, above all, safe time together.
Our tips for planning your first “real-life” meeting are designed to help you feel safe:
- Trust your gut!
If something seems strange to you, take your intuition seriously and leave the situation—or don't put yourself in it in the first place. Even if the person makes you feel like they are hurt or disappointed as a result—your well-being is more important. - It's a good idea to talk on the phone or use Video Chat before meeting “in real life.” This gives you a better idea of the person.
- Above all, the ideal place for a first meeting is public. Ideally, it should also be a place you know well and where you feel safe. A stranger's apartment is not a good place for a first Date.
- Tell your friends about the Date and take your phone with you.
- And again, because it's so important: You can really end the meeting at any time if you don't like it.
- If you're invited to a Video Chat, keep in mind that it can always be recorded—and therefore so can you and what you do. Unfortunately, this is also true if someone assures you otherwise.
If you have unfortunately found yourself in a problematic situation during a meeting, for example due to:
- Harassment
- Coercion
- Theft
- Extortion
... we recommend reporting the person to us and filing a police report using their profile ID.
No one should have to experience something like this, and we will do our best to support you in this situation.
