Fake, spam, scam - nobody likes fraud and that's why we take consistent action against these cases. You can also help us to make LOVOO an open and honest place. This is very easy: Do you see a suspicious profile? Then take screenshots and report it to us. We will then take appropriate action.
Here is a brief overview of fake, spam and scam profiles and how you can quickly recognize them:
Fake profiles (profiles that do not represent the person behind them):
- pretend to be a person they are not,
- are not verified,
- don't want to meet with you in person,
- may try to damage the reputation of another person,
- try to exploit the community.
spam profiles (profiles that are used to disseminate ads for other products or platforms):
- try to redirect members to another (commercial) website,
- try to write to you outside of LOVOO (often on the grounds that they cannot do so on LOVOO),
- write to members with ready-made texts.
Scam profiles (fraudulent profiles that want to hurt other members):
- try to contact you quickly outside of LOVOO,
- often report quite implausible and pitiful stories (e.g. they are supposedly abroad for a job or military deployment, they need money for a trip around the world, etc.),
- are quick to ask for money, often after they have reported an alleged stroke of fate,
- make a declaration of love pretty quickly and write overly cheesy lyrics.
Technical measures to prevent, identify and combat spam attacks
We generally differentiate between these three types of spam: fake profiles, spam profiles and scam profiles. For the sake of simplicity, we have grouped these different types of profiles under "Spam".
To prevent spam, we have a team that specializes in preventing these attacks. They classify and eliminate spam in several extensive steps. These include:
- the secure transmission of data,
- combating invalid e-mail addresses,
- hiding profiles that are not fully authorized from other members,
-
the regular improvement of our anti-spam technologies and rules.
What if that's not enough?
Should spammers nevertheless succeed in overcoming LOVOO's security barriers, the real-time and machine learning algorithms that automatically identify conspicuous user behavior on LOVOO come into play.
What happens if a profile is classified as spam?
If a profile is classified as spam, it is blocked and must be verified. As long as a profile classified as spam is not verified, it is hidden from the LOVOO platform and can no longer make contact with LOVOO members.
How can you support us?
You can also actively contribute to learning more about spam attacks. Your information about possible spam profiles will be checked by our Customer Care team, so that even fake profiles that have existed for some time can be detected and removed. If you have discovered a profile that you think is spam, use the report function directly in the app or contact our Customer Care Team. Thank you for your support! Together we make LOVOO a safer place.
